What is Maker Faire?

Maker Faire is a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these "makers" to show hobbies, experiments, projects.

We call it the Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth - a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness.

Featured Makers

Lynchburg Vintage

Lynchburg is full of history. Scattered across basements, garages, warehouses, and old store fronts are relics from the past waiting for their chance at new life. An old coffee pot or pickle jar can become a beautiful terrarium. Chippy painted floor boards of a porch could be the wings of a bird. A vintage camera can be useful again, displaying family photos. The possibilities are endless for the rusty, crusty, chippy, dented, broken, and bent.

Musical Geodesic Dome

An amazing 7 foot tall geodesic dome that acts like a piano only with this "instrument" the musician just touches one (or many) of the 25 struts of the geodesic dome to trigger musical sounds. It's a combination of art, geometry, and architecture!

Mad Max Kart

The Mad Max kart is racing for victory. This kart was built at Vector Space, Lynchburg's community makerspace, by talented and dedicated members.

Interactive Mural

This interactive mural explores the space between digital precision and human gesture. Created in collaboration with local artists, the work combines abstract art through audience participation. Visitors can paint components to add to the mosiac. Instruction for introductory painting techniques will be offered for makers of all ages. As pieces are added, the mural grows into a collective composition shaped by many hands, emphasizing process, experimentation, and shared making.

Hacksburg

Hacksburg is the New River Valley's makerspace. Hacksburg members will be showing off projects completed in our workshop, including an ultrasonic levitator, portable laser cutter, tabletop arcade cabinet, foam armor, and more.
