Backwoods3D live printing with the SnapmakerU1

3D Printing
Backwoods3D had a great time vending with you all last year. If accepted again our plans this year include bringing more assistance so there is never a disruption between answering 3D questions or taking sales with our family friendly articulating and fidget 3D prints. Additionally, we now have a completely silent power bank we take to events and demonstrate our SnapmakerU1 4 tool head 3D printer. This printer doesn't release pre-orders until April but we got ours early on Kickstarter and it has been a huge hit at shows as multiple tool head printers are still very uncommon. We showcase our Dinosaurs, animals, fidgets, dragons, and other mixed printed mediums like clickers, embedded magnets, and printing on fabric.

They assist us on location at shows, helping with inventory and processing orders, and have represented our company fantastically at events.

What inspired you to make this project?
Backwoods3D began our 3D printing journey in 2012, growing from a passion project into a full-time business in February 2024. We specialize in family-friendly articulating and fidget-style 3D prints, and proudly travel across Virginia—along with select out-of-state events—sharing our work with communities near and far.

In the past year alone, Backwoods3D participated in over 100 events. At each show, we offer live 3D printing demonstrations and take time to answer questions about the craft. These hands-on experiences have helped dozens of people confidently begin their own 3D printing journey, while also guiding parents who are considering introducing their children to the hobby.

Our mission is simple: provide high-quality, thoughtfully artist supported designed 3D prints that remain affordable and accessible for everyone, while inspiring curiosity, creativity, and learning at every event we attend.

What are some of the challenges you have encountered and how did you address them?
Managing over 20 3D printers in house required a lot of organizing, optimizing our office space, and regularly ordering filament so supply for our shows isn't ever distributed. Making a calendar and to do list was also crucial to keep us on track for situations like our 36 shows in September that required us to constantly stock for in the slower months before hand. Additionally a lot of shows required high vendor fees months in advance and we had to budget constantly to keep up in inventory, machine parts, and vendor fees, while still being able to pay all the bills.
